Stay Positive – Stay Sexy   Leave a comment

A good reason to stay positive as you age:

Researchers at the University of Waterloo in Canada interviewed 1,170 people in their 40s and 70s about their attitudes to ageing and sex, and found that those with less positive views on getting older, enjoyed and desired sex less.

This was reported in The Journal of Sex Research. So, if you want to keep it up right into old age, stay positive!

Happy love-making.

Sexy Brains   Leave a comment

Having sex more often improves brain function!

Those who keep their sex life active right through to their golden years were found to have improved fluency and spatial skills, helping in old age, a study by Oxford and Coventry Universities found.

Sex, as I’ve described in my book, Exploring Sex, Love and Lust, releases the ‘feel good’ hormone dopamine into the brain, helping with complex mental tasks. Lead author, Dr Hayley Wright, said: ‘This study shows that more sex at an older age is linked with better brain power …. it is a reminder that it is important to maintain intimate relationships as you age.’ She went on to say, ‘There is still a taboo, where older people don’t want to talk about having sex, and some people don’t want to think about it, but this shows it could be very positive.’

Researchers at Coventry University, in a previous study, found having sex improved older people’s memory – but didn’t look at how often participants had sex. The updated study, published in the Journals of Gerontology, Series B, and reported in the Daily Mail in the UK, asked 73 people aged between 50 and 83, how often they had sex in the previous 12 months – either not at all, or monthly, or weekly.

In tests of their brain power, those who had sex weekly scored 2% higher than those who did every month … and their cognitive abilities were 4% better than those who had been celibate for the past year.

So, clearly, if you want to keep the old brain cells going well into old age, you need to keep up the frequent sex!

Happy love-making,

Need to Pee   2 comments

Us fellas can’t help it, but as we get older our prostate gland enlarges and squeezes tight around the urethra (the tube that runs from our bladder to the end of our penis). Symptoms are a need to pee frequently and weak flow.

This problem is described, medically, as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH for short. If you’re thinking, ‘Oh good, the bigger my prostate, the more ejaculate I’ll make.’ Sorry guys, that’s not true.

But here’s some good news: In a trial at Queen’s University in Ontario, 750 men with BPH were given tadalafil (Cialis to you and me) once a day for 12 weeks. Cialis, like seldenafil (Viagra), increases blood flow to the penis, helping erectile dysfunction. It seems that it might also improve muscle tone around the bladder, by increasing blood flow there, in addition to relaxing the soft muscle surrounding the urethra, thus making an easier passage for urine, as well as seminal fluid, to flow.

Two thirds of the men in this trial showed significant improvements in their symptoms compared with those taking a placebo.

Happy love-making.
