Did you read Dame Helen’s little bit of home-spun philosophy, when she was addressing young graduates with one of her top tips for life?

“Don’t confuse sex with love. Love generally lasts more than two minutes.”

Advice rarely gets any better than that!

Happy love-making.

Mothers and Sex   Leave a comment

Mum really DOES know best!

Dr Laura Widman, of the Teen Health Lab at North Carolina State University analysed research of 25,000 teenagers over 30 years, about discussing with parents contraception and risky sexual conduct.

It is ‘the chat’ dads, and teenagers, dread most. But the research suggests that those who did talk it over with a parent made them more likely to practise safe sex – and it’s better still if done by Mum.

Under 25s make up more than six in ten chlamydia cases in the UK, more than 140,000 annually.

Particularly among mothers and girls, ‘communication with parents’ has a protective effect on adolescent contraceptive and condom use.¬†The results are published in JAMA Pediatrics.

There is another way – and you know what I mean – my book even has a chapter devoted to ‘Communication’, to help Mum or Dad, as well another on ‘Conception and Contraception’. So you’ll know all about it – Mums too!

Happy love-making.

Good News from Italy   1 comment

Reported in international news today was research on 7,000 men, over 4 years in the Molise region of Italy confirmed that drinking three strong coffees a day cuts the chances of prostate cancer by more than 50%.

Study leader George Pounis, of the Mediterranean Neurological Institute, said: ‘By analysing their coffee consumption habits and comparing them with prostate cancer cases occurring over time, we saw a net reduction of risk of 53% in those who drank more than three cups a day.’

The team confirmed their findings by testing the action of coffee extracts on prostate cancer cells in laboratory studies.

In the UK, prostate cancer in men is the biggest killer after breast cancer in women.

If you’d like a copy of the full report, let me know and I’ll send it to you.

Happy love-making – and survive cancer!

Armpit Hair   Leave a comment

Armpit Hair

On Instagram, Paris Jackson, the 18 yr old, defended her armpit hair after receiving criticism over her choice to let it grow. In response, HuffPost UK blogger Kirsty Baines said: ‘It is absolutely not acceptable for others to comment on her body hair, as nobody has the right to dictate how another individual should, or shouldn’t, look.’

There has been little written in defense of body hair – and we all have it – because it has, mistakenly, been accepted as being ‘not nice’ or even ‘disgusting.’ for women to display it. Even thinking, again mistakenly, that it is ‘dirty’ and should be removed.

Women follow trends; that’s how it all began. But trends are often started by a minority and, in this case, by a minority ignorant of the fact that a great many men find body hair erotic, sensual, and attractive. Somehow this subject has gotten onto the list of taboos to discuss.

When researching this ‘taboo’ I discovered so much that I included a whole chapter, entitled: ‘Hair – Everywhere’ in my book, Exploring Sex, Love and Lust. Be enlightened, even excited, by reading up.

Happy Love-Making.

The Wrong Blood   Leave a comment

A study shows that men with blood type A, B or AB are up to four times more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction than men who have blood type O.

It doesn’t alter the fact that smoking, being overweight, and having high blood pressure are thought to be the most important factors, however the study carried out by Ordu University in Turkey suggests your blood type may be as influential.

Researchers took blood samples from 350 men in their sixties and split them into two groups according to whether they had erectile problems. The results revealed men with blood types A, B or AB were three to four times more likely to fail in the bedroom than those with blood type O.

Just 16 per cent with O blood types had problems, compared with 42 per cent of those with blood type A.

If you’re having problems, get checked out – there is help out there.
