Feeling old and wrinkly?   Leave a comment

Researchers at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital tell us that regular sex can prevent lines and wrinkles.
People in their forties who had sex two or three times a week were judged to look seven to thirteen years younger – probably down to DHEA, a hormone released during sex that can increase collagen production.
You heard it here; stay young and beautiful; no excuses now!

Worry-Free Orgasms   Leave a comment

Here’s some good news – women do not need to be totally relaxed to enjoy sex.

You don’t need to ‘switch off’ from life to achieve orgasm. The latest study, by Dr Nan Wise, a US neuroscientist, involved ten women experiencing orgasm while their brain activity was followed by MRI scanner. They observed that brain activity in regions responsible for movement, senses, memory and emotions, all gradually increased during the lead-up to orgasm, when activity then peaked and lowered again.

The latest study discovered that the female orgasm is truly ‘mind-blowing’, as it activates the same part of the brain involved in ‘out-of-body experiences.’

Dr Wise, whose research is published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, said of the findings: ‘We found no evidence of deactivation of brain regions during orgasm,’ and went on to say ‘This suggests that the brain does not need to be switched off for a woman to experience orgasm.’

She also said: ‘I don’t believe women have to be worry-free at the time, they just need to focus on the sensation of what is happening. Then this will essentially take over as what they are focusing on.’

Here’s the technical bit: The study, reported in New Scientist magazine, also found a part of the brain, called the dorsal raphe nucleus, becomes more active during orgasm. This is involved with releasing serotonin, which can dampen pain, explaining why women may be less likely to notice being in pain during climax.

Dr Wise said: ‘When you think of it, an out-of-body experience is a state of altered consciousness. And you also get to a point in orgasm where you are taken completely out of yourself.’

So no worries! Just enjoy your love-making.

Best Part of Sex   Leave a comment

Reported this week by the journal PLOS One, is that most people think the best part of sex is the kisses and cuddles, not the act itself.

Researchers in the US asked nearly 2,000 people their thoughts on nearly 50 sexual behaviors and found affectionate and romantic behavior appealed to both men and women.

Sexy Brains   Leave a comment

Having sex more often improves brain function!

Those who keep their sex life active right through to their golden years were found to have improved fluency and spatial skills, helping in old age, a study by Oxford and Coventry Universities found.

Sex, as I’ve described in my book, Exploring Sex, Love and Lust, releases the ‘feel good’ hormone dopamine into the brain, helping with complex mental tasks. Lead author, Dr Hayley Wright, said: ‘This study shows that more sex at an older age is linked with better brain power …. it is a reminder that it is important to maintain intimate relationships as you age.’ She went on to say, ‘There is still a taboo, where older people don’t want to talk about having sex, and some people don’t want to think about it, but this shows it could be very positive.’

Researchers at Coventry University, in a previous study, found having sex improved older people’s memory – but didn’t look at how often participants had sex. The updated study, published in the Journals of Gerontology, Series B, and reported in the Daily Mail in the UK, asked 73 people aged between 50 and 83, how often they had sex in the previous 12 months – either not at all, or monthly, or weekly.

In tests of their brain power, those who had sex weekly scored 2% higher than those who did every month … and their cognitive abilities were 4% better than those who had been celibate for the past year.

So, clearly, if you want to keep the old brain cells going well into old age, you need to keep up the frequent sex!

Armpit Hair   Leave a comment

Armpit Hair

On Instagram, Paris Jackson, the 18 yr old, defended her armpit hair after receiving criticism over her choice to let it grow. In response, HuffPost UK blogger Kirsty Baines said: ‘It is absolutely not acceptable for others to comment on her body hair, as nobody has the right to dictate how another individual should, or shouldn’t, look.’

There has been little written in defense of body hair – and we all have it – because it has, mistakenly, been accepted as being ‘not nice’ or even ‘disgusting.’ for women to display it. Even thinking, again mistakenly, that it is ‘dirty’ and should be removed.

Women follow trends; that’s how it all began. But trends are often started by a minority and, in this case, by a minority ignorant of the fact that a great many men find body hair erotic, sensual, and attractive. Somehow this subject has gotten onto the list of taboos to discuss.

When researching this ‘taboo’ I discovered so much that I included a whole chapter, entitled: ‘Hair – Everywhere’ in my book, Exploring Sex, Love and Lust. Be enlightened, even excited, by reading up.

Happy Love-Making.
